His books have sold over 50 million copies and have been translated into more than 25 languages around the world. He was also the president of Success Unlimited magazine for a time and is recognized in the National Speakers Association's Hall of Fame.

Life and Career

Og Mandino was born in Natick, Massachusetts, on December 12, 1923. His parents were Silvio and Margaret Mandino. He was named Augustine after his Italian grandfather.

When he was in high school, Mandino was the editor of his school newspaper. He planned to study journalism at the University of Missouri. However, in 1940, before he could go to college, his mother passed away suddenly. He then worked in a paper factory until 1942.

Serving in World War II

In 1942, Mandino joined the United States Army Air Corps. He became a military officer and a bombardier. He flew 30 bombing missions over Germany during World War II. He flew on a B-24 Liberator airplane. During this time, he even flew with the famous movie star James Stewart, who was also a pilot.

Finding His Path

After his time in the military, Mandino became an insurance salesman. He struggled for a while. One day, he visited a library and found many self-help, success, and motivation books. These books really caught his attention. He started reading them and visited many other libraries across the United States.

In a library in Concord, New Hampshire, he found a book called Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude by W. Clement Stone. This book changed Mandino's life. He learned that Stone owned the Combined Insurance Company. Mandino decided to get a sales job there when he was 32 years old.

Within a year, Mandino was promoted to sales manager. He started breaking sales records! He wrote a small book about selling in rural areas. This led to a job writing promotions for W. Clement Stone's magazine, Success Unlimited. By 1966, Mandino was the Executive Editor of the magazine. He also helped put together a collection of articles from the magazine called A Treasury of Success Unlimited.

Becoming a Famous Author

Og Mandino eventually became a very successful writer and speaker. His books were inspired by the Bible. They were also influenced by other great thinkers like Napoleon Hill, W. Clement Stone, and Emmet Fox. He was honored by being added to the National Speakers Association Speaker Hall of Fame.

Philosophy

Og Mandino believed that every person on Earth is special and unique, like a miracle. He taught that people should live their lives with confidence. He also believed that successful people take charge of their own lives. They "chart" their course, meaning they consciously choose where they want to go and how they will get there.
