Ohmstal was once a small town, or "municipality," located in the Willisau district of Lucerne, a region in Switzerland. On January 1, 2013, Ohmstal joined with a nearby town called Schötz to become one larger municipality.

Ohmstal was first mentioned around the year 1150. Back then, it was known by a slightly different name, Omistal. Later, between the 15th and 17th centuries, people called it Amanstal. This shows how the name of the town changed over many years.

Before it merged, Ohmstal covered an area of about 4.5 square kilometers (1.7 square miles). A big part of this land, about 67.9%, was used for farming. This means there were lots of fields and pastures.
