Oktaha is a small town located in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, in the United States. It's a quiet community with a rich history and a strong focus on its local school.

History of Oktaha

Oktaha got its name from a Muscogee chief named Oktarharsars Harjo, also known as Sands. The town started in 1872. It became a stop along the MK&T "Katy" Railroad. This railroad helped the town grow.

By 1900, Oktaha had its own post office. A small area with businesses also began to appear. However, local businesses faced challenges later on. The town struggled more when U.S. Highway 69 was changed. This new route went around Oktaha instead of through it.

Even with these changes, Oktaha is still important for education. It has a K-12 school that serves many students. These students come from the rural areas of Muskogee County.
