Disqualification at the 2006 Olympics

At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Olga Medvedtseva initially won a silver medal in the 15 km individual race. However, she was later disqualified from the competition. This happened because she failed a drug test, meaning she had a banned substance in her system. As a result, she was removed from the games and her medal was taken away. She was also banned from competing for two years.

It was stated that she took an over-the-counter medication for an ankle injury. This medication was prescribed by her personal doctor, not the team doctor, and it contained a substance that was not allowed in sports.
