Early Golf Days and Amateur Career
Oliver Fisher was born in Chingford, London. He was a very promising young golfer. He won the Faldo Series three times (2003, 2004, and 2005). This series helps young golfers develop their skills.
In 2004, Oliver was part of the English team. They won the European Boys' Team Championship. He was also on Europe's team for the 2004 Junior Ryder Cup. They won against the United States in Ohio. In 2005, he became the youngest player ever to play in the Walker Cup. This is a big amateur golf event.
In late 2006, Oliver was still an amateur. He entered the European Tour's qualifying school. This is where golfers try to earn a spot on the tour. He finished fifth and became the youngest British golfer to get a tour card. He then became a professional golfer right away.
Professional Golf Journey
Oliver started his professional career well. He made the cut in his first five European Tour events. He kept his tour card for the next year. In 2008, he had a strong season. He finished second at the MAPFRE Open de Andalucía by Valle Romano. He lost in a playoff to another golfer.
The 2009 season was tough for Oliver. He lost his European Tour Card. But he got chances to play in 2010. He had four top-ten finishes in a row. This helped him get his full playing rights back for the 2011 season.
The start of 2011 was also difficult. He missed many cuts in tournaments. But then, he made the cut in two events in a row. In his very next tournament, the Czech Open in August, he won his first tour title! He started the final round tied for the lead. He shot a score of 69 and won by two strokes. This victory earned him a spot on the tour for two more years.
At the end of 2012, Oliver tried to join the PGA Tour. He got to the final stage of qualifying. He missed getting in by just one stroke. He continued to play on the European Tour.
In 2018, Oliver Fisher made history. He shot the first-ever round of 59 on the European Tour. This happened in the second round of the Portugal Masters. A score of 59 is incredibly rare in golf. It means he played 12 strokes better than the expected score (par) for the course.
