Omar Ibrahim Omar Othman Hawsawi (Arabic: عمر إبراهيم عمر عثمان هوساوي), born on September 27, 1985, is a former professional football player from Saudi Arabia. He was a strong defender for famous clubs like Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad.

Omar also played for the Saudi Arabia national team. He appeared in 53 matches for his country between 2013 and 2019. He even played in big tournaments like the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the AFC Asian Cup in 2015 and 2019.

Omar Hawsawi's Football Journey

Starting Out: Early Club Career

Omar Hawsawi began his football journey in the youth team of Al-Shabab. However, he left the club before playing for their main team. After leaving Al-Shabab, Omar joined Al-Washm. He played there for one year.

After his time at Al-Washm, he moved to Al-Shoulla. His first match for Al-Shoulla was against Al-Faisaly. He played for Al-Shoulla for two years.

Playing for Al-Nassr

On October 13, 2010, Omar Hawsawi agreed to join Al-Nassr. He officially became part of the team in early 2011. His first game for Al-Nassr was on February 24, 2011. They won that match 3–2 against Al-Faisaly.

Winning Titles with Al-Nassr

Omar became a key player for Al-Nassr. In the 2013–14 season, he played in 22 league games. He helped Al-Nassr win the Saudi Pro League and the Crown Prince Cup. On January 15, 2014, he signed a new four-year contract with the club.

The next season, 2014–15, Al-Nassr won the league title again. Omar continued to be an important part of their defense. In 2018, he signed another contract to stay with Al-Nassr. In the 2018–19 season, Omar was the team captain. He led Al-Nassr to win their first league title in four years. This was their eighth league title overall.

Moving to Al-Ittihad

On October 18, 2020, Omar Hawsawi joined Al-Ittihad on a one-year deal. He renewed his contract with Al-Ittihad on July 9, 2021.

Success at Al-Ittihad

During the 2022–23 season, Omar played in 23 matches for Al-Ittihad. He helped the team win their first league title since 2009. They also won their first Saudi Super Cup title that season. On May 31, 2023, Omar signed another one-year extension with Al-Ittihad.

Retirement from Football

On May 3, 2024, Omar Hawsawi announced that he would be retiring from professional football. His last season was the 2023–24 season.

Playing for Saudi Arabia

In May 2018, Omar Hawsawi was chosen to be part of Saudi Arabia's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He played in this major international tournament.
