On Your Own Adventures is a TV show about hunting in the United States. It was created by Randy Newberg and Will Holmes. The show is shown on the Outdoor Channel and CarbonTV. It follows Randy Newberg and his friends as they go on hunting trips. These trips are "non-guided," meaning they don't use professional guides. Marc Pierce is the host of the show.

About the Show's Setting

On Your Own Adventures is based in Bozeman, Montana. All the show's production work happens in Montana or Colorado. Troy Batzler and Loren Moulton are the main Videographers who film the episodes.

The first season of the show was filmed in 2008. It started airing in July 2009. All the episodes take place in the United States. Most of them are filmed on public lands in the Western U.S. The first season has 12 episodes. They were filmed in places like Montana, Colorado, New Mexico, and Iowa. The hunters on the show look for animals like elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, antelope, bear, and turkey.

What Makes the Show Special?

On Your Own Adventures is the first TV show about hunting that truly shows hunting as it happens. It focuses on "fair chase" hunting. This means hunters don't use guides or special helpers. They also hunt on land that is open to everyone.

Most big game hunters in the United States (about 97%) hunt without guides. This show is special because it focuses only on them. Every episode shows ethical hunting. This means hunters follow rules and respect nature. All hunts must happen on lands that are open to the public.

Camping is a big part of every episode. The hunters sleep in tents and cook their own meals. They build their own fires and take care of themselves. The show tries to show the challenges of hunting. These include facing nature, dealing with other people, and facing challenges within themselves.

How the Show is Made

Two videographers go on every hunt to film the action. They use special cameras to capture everything. They also use small cameras for "point of view" shots. These cameras show what the hunter sees.

Warm Springs Production finishes making the show. Nathan Charlan helps organize everything. Greg Davis and Lin Brummett are the editors. They put all the video clips together.

Sound is very important. They use wireless microphones on the hunters. They also use special "shotgun mics" to record natural sounds. This helps capture the sounds of the outdoors.

Sometimes, hunting stops so the film crew can interview the hunters. This helps them "capture the moment." They ask hunters many questions. This helps viewers understand what hunting is like for everyday Americans. It also shows how hunters see their role in protecting wildlife.
