History of Onalaska
Onalaska has experienced powerful storms. On May 1, 1967, an F2 tornado hit the town. This storm damaged a store and post office, and two people were hurt.
Years later, on April 22, 2020, an even stronger storm struck. An EF3 tornado caused a lot of damage to many homes. Sadly, three people lost their lives, and 33 others were injured.

Onalaska is a small city in terms of land area. The United States Census Bureau says the city covers about 2.2 square miles (5.7 km2) in total. Most of this area, about 2.1 square miles (5.4 km2), is land. A very small part, about 0.47%, is water.
