Family Background and Childhood
Oona Chaplin was born in Madrid, Spain. Her mother is Geraldine Chaplin, an English-American actress. Her father is Patricio Castilla, a cinematographer from Chile. Oona has a half-brother named Shane. Her grandmother, Hilda Valderrama, was a human rights lawyer from the Mapuche people.
Oona is part of the famous Chaplin family. She is the granddaughter of the legendary English filmmaker and actor Charlie Chaplin. Her great-grandmother was the Irish-American playwright Eugene O'Neill. Oona was named after her maternal grandmother, Oona O'Neill, who was Charlie Chaplin's fourth wife.
Oona spent her childhood living in different countries. She lived in Spain, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Cuba. She traveled a lot because her mother worked in films. From a young age, Oona learned different dance styles like ballet, salsa, and flamenco.

When Oona was 15, she received a drama scholarship. She went to Gordonstoun School in Scotland. While at school, she acted in many plays. Oona has also had important roles in British and American television. In 2010, she was in the ITV show Married Single Other. From 2011 to 2012, she played Marnie Madden in the BBC drama The Hour. She also appeared in an episode of the BBC's Sherlock in 2012.

One of her most well-known roles was as Talisa Maegyr in the HBO series Game of Thrones. She was on the show from 2012 to 2013.
