This means it was an area identified by the United States Census Bureau for gathering population data, but it wasn't an officially incorporated city. In 2000, about 25,065 people lived there.

History of Opportunity
The name "Opportunity" was chosen in 1905. It was the winning name in a special contest. Since 2003, Opportunity has become a part of the city of Spokane Valley. It is now a neighborhood within that city.
