Oriente is one of the 18 special areas called barrios in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is made up of three smaller areas: Borinquen, López Sicardó, and San José.
Before 1951, Oriente was part of the old city of Rio Piedras. In 2010, about 31,374 people lived there. Oriente is surrounded by other barrios like Sabana Llana Norte and Sabana Llana Sur. To its west are Hato Rey Central and Hato Rey Norte. To the north, you'll find the Santurce barrio and the beautiful San Jose Lagoon.

As you can see from the table, the number of people living in Oriente has changed a lot. In 1950, there were about 14,595 residents. The population grew quite a bit by 1970, reaching over 43,000 people. Since then, the number of residents has slowly decreased. In 2010, the population was 31,374.
