Orivesi is a town in Finland, located in the Pirkanmaa region. It's found northeast of Tampere, which is a big city nearby. About 9,000 people live in Orivesi. The larger Tampere area, which includes Orivesi, has about 417,000 people.
Orivesi covers an area of about 960.09 square kilometres (370.69 sq mi), and a good part of that, 160.53 km2 (61.98 sq mi), is water! Most people in Orivesi speak Finnish.
Orivesi started as a municipality in 1869 and became a full city in 1986. Over the years, some nearby areas like Eräjärvi (in 1973) and parts of Längelmäki (in 2007) joined Orivesi. Today, its neighbors are Juupajoki, Jämsä, Kangasala, Kuhmoinen, Ruovesi, and Tampere. Orivesi is about 43 kilometres (27 mi) away from Tampere. The main part of Orivesi town is right by Lake Längelmävesi.
Orivesi used to be home to the Oriveden Opisto art school, but it moved to Tampere in 2018.

Exploring Orivesi's Nature
Orivesi is a watery place with more than 350 lakes! The biggest lake, Lake Längelmävesi, is a major feature of the area. Many smaller lakes and rivers flow into it. A part of Kangasala's Lake Vesijärvi also reaches into Orivesi. Some lakes in the western part of Orivesi flow into Lake Näsijärvi.
The highest points in Orivesi are hills that rise over 200 meters (about 650 feet) above sea level. These are found in the northwest, close to the borders of Tampere and Ruovesi. On average, the land here is about 100–150 meters (330–490 feet) high.
Did you know there's a gold mine in Orivesi? It opened in 1990, and since then, over 15 tons of gold have been found there!

Traditional Food of Orivesi
In the 1980s, two special dishes were named the traditional foods of Orivesi: blood sausage and mustikkapöperö. Blood sausage is a savory dish, while mustikkapöperö is a sweet dessert made with blueberries.
Sports and Activities
Orivesi is a great place for sports! It has an ice hockey club called Oriveden Fortuna, which started in 1968. They train at the Orivesi Ice Rink. If you like football, Orivesi also has a football club called Oriveden Tuisku.
