Orondo is a small community in Douglas County, Washington, United States. It is located right next to the eastern part of the Columbia River. Orondo is part of the larger Wenatchee area.

This area is very famous for its strong farming industry. Farmers here grow lots of delicious fruits. These include apples, cherries, and pears. The name "Orondo" comes from a story about a Great Lake Indian. The community was first settled in the late 1800s by a politician named John B. Smith.

The Auvil Fruit Company is also located in Orondo. Its founder, Grady Auvil, helped introduce the Granny Smith apple to Washington State. He also helped grow high-quality Fuji Apples in the state.

Orondo has a U.S. Post Office and an elementary school. You can also find many fruit stands along U.S. Highway 97. These stands sell fresh, local fruits. In 2017, about 1,995 people lived in Orondo.

Parks and Outdoor Fun

Orondo is home to some great parks where you can enjoy nature.

Daroga State Park

Daroga State Park is a large camping park, covering 127 acres. It has 1.5 miles of shoreline along the Columbia River. The park is located on the edge of the desert scab-lands. This area was first an orchard and ranch in 1928. The name "Daroga" comes from the first letters of the Auvil brothers' names: Dave, Robert, and Grady. They even developed a new type of peach called the Daroga Peach. In 1981, Grady Auvil sold the land to Washington State. Today, the Chelan County PUD owns it, but Washington State Parks operates it.

Orondo River Park

The Orondo River Park was created in 1972. It has been a place for fun and recreation since 1976. Parts of the park are owned by the Port of Douglas and the Chelan County PUD. In 2017, the Port of Douglas asked the Chelan PUD to take over the park. This was because the park had been losing money for several years.
