Osasumwen Osaghae Jr. (born July 29, 1998) is an American basketball player. He last played for Spirou in the BNXT League. Before becoming a professional, he played college basketball for the FIU Panthers.

Early Life and Basketball Start

Osasumwen Osaghae was born in Miami, Florida. His parents had moved there from Nigeria just 20 days before he was born. In a Nigerian language, his name means "God leads me."

Osaghae first played soccer when he was young. But at age 16, he switched to basketball. He was already very tall, standing 6 feet 4 inches by his freshman year of high school. He made the switch after attending a camp led by Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.

Osaghae played basketball for Miami Southridge High School. During high school, he struggled with his eating habits and his weight. As a junior, he even quit basketball for a while. He wanted to transfer schools because he felt his coach was too strict. He came back to the team for his senior year. However, he was often benched because he did not put in enough effort during practice.

College Basketball Career

By the end of high school, Osaghae weighed almost 300 pounds. He worked hard to improve his diet and lost 60 pounds. He then joined the basketball team at Florida International University (FIU) as a walk-on player. This means he joined the team without a scholarship at first. He studied business management at FIU.

In his first year, Osaghae played in only three games and had limited time on the court. During his second year, he played more. He averaged 3.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in about 12 minutes per game.

Before his junior year, Osaghae received a full scholarship to play for FIU. He had thought about leaving the team because of a coaching change. As a junior, he averaged 8.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. He also led his league with 3.1 blocks per game. He was named to the Conference USA All-Defensive Team. His 96 blocks that season were the second-most ever by an FIU player in one season. He missed three games that year due to a bone injury.

In his senior year, Osaghae averaged 13 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He also led NCAA Division I with 3.7 blocks per game. By the end of the season, he became FIU's all-time leader in blocked shots. He was also named second-team All-Conference USA and Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year.
