A Look Back in Time
Otisville was first settled in 1816. The village got its name from Isaac Otis, who was an early settler and a local shop owner.
Near the village, there used to be a special hospital called a sanitarium. This hospital was for people who needed long-term care, often for illnesses like tuberculosis. Later, it became a training school for boys. This kind of school was sometimes called a "reform school" for young boys who had gotten into trouble. In the 1970s, this building was changed again and became a New York State prison.
