This lake is found in two towns: Lake Pleasant and Arietta. Both of these towns are in Hamilton County, New York. The lake is also part of the large and beautiful Adirondack Park.

What's Around the Lake?

Oxbow Lake has about 4.3 miles (6.9 km) of shoreline, and there are no islands in the lake. Along the southeast side of the lake, you'll find homes where people live, some all year and some just for vacations.

Other parts of the lake's edge are mostly untouched. This is because there are many wet, marshy areas, especially at the ends of the lake. Also, the entire northwest side of the lake is part of the Jessup River Wild Forest. This is a protected area where nature can thrive.

Fishing in Oxbow Lake

Oxbow Lake is a great place for fishing! It's known as a "warm-water fishery" because it's not very deep. This means the water gets warmer, which is perfect for certain types of fish. Many people come here to catch Largemouth Bass and Pickerel. These are two popular fish species found in the lake.
