Pablo Larraín Matte (born August 19, 1976) is a famous filmmaker from Chile. He is known for directing many movies, including No (2012), Neruda (2016), Jackie (2016), and Spencer (2021). Pablo and his brother Juan de Dios also helped produce A Fantastic Woman (2017). This film was the first one from Chile to win an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2021, Larraín also directed the TV show Lisey's Story for Apple TV+.

Pablo Larraín Matte was born in Santiago, Chile, on August 19, 1976. His father, Hernán Larraín, was a law professor and later a senator. His mother, Magdalena Matte, was a government minister. Pablo studied audiovisual communication at the University for the Arts, Sciences, and Communication in Santiago.
Career as a Filmmaker
Starting Out
In 2003, Pablo Larraín and his brother, Juan de Dios Larraín, started a company called Fábula. This company helps them create movies and commercials. It also supports new directors from around the world.
Larraín directed his first movie, Fuga, in 2005. It came out in 2006 and won many awards at film festivals. His next film, Post Mortem, was released in 2010. This movie is about a coroner's assistant during the 1973 coup in Chile. The film was shown at the 67th Venice International Film Festival.
Movies in the 2010s
In 2011, Larraín directed the TV series Prófugos. This was the first show made in Chile by HBO Latin America. The series was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Drama Series.
In 2012, he released No. This movie stars Gael García Bernal as an advertising executive. He works on the "No" campaign for the 1988 vote that removed Augusto Pinochet from power. No won an award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. It was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. This was the first time a Chilean film received this nomination.
No, along with Tony Manero and Post Mortem, are sometimes called Larraín's "unintentional trilogy." All three films tell stories set during Augusto Pinochet's time in power. Larraín has said that during those years, Chile struggled to express itself through art.

In 2020, Larraín was part of a TV series called Homemade on Netflix. This series had short films made by different directors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Larraín directed a short film called "Last Call."
In 2021, Larraín directed his second English-language film, Spencer. This movie is about Princess Diana and stars Kristen Stewart. The film was shown at the 78th Venice Film Festival. Kristen Stewart's acting was highly praised, and she was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar.
In 2023, Larraín directed El Conde, which premiered at the 80th Venice International Film Festival. He also produced a Chilean documentary called The Eternal Memory. This documentary was nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature Film.
