Panagiotis Retsos (born August 9, 1998) is a professional footballer from Greece. He plays as a centre-back for the Super League club Olympiacos and is also part of the Greece national team.

Playing for Clubs

Starting at Olympiacos

Panagiotis Retsos began his journey in football with the Olympiacos youth team. In the summer of 2016, when he was just 18 years old, he was moved up to the main team. The coach, Víctor Sánchez, was very impressed by how much energy and strength Panagiotis had.

On August 25, 2016, he played his first game for the club. This was a Europa League match against Arouca. A few months later, on February 8, 2017, Retsos became the captain of Olympiacos in a Greek Cup game. He was only 18 years, five months, and 30 days old, making him the youngest captain in the club's history!

Moving to Bayer Leverkusen

On August 30, 2017, Retsos moved to the German club Bayer Leverkusen. He signed a five-year contract with them. He made his debut in the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league, on September 17, 2017. He started the game against SC Freiburg, and his team won 4–0. Fans even voted him "Man of the Match" on the club's social media.

Retsos scored his first goal in the Bundesliga on April 9, 2018, in a game against RB Leipzig. He played in 20 games during his first season in Germany. Unfortunately, he faced some injuries after that, which kept him off the field for a while. He worked hard to recover and returned to play in late 2019.

Loan to Sheffield United

In February 2020, Retsos joined Premier League club Sheffield United in England on a loan deal. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused football games to be stopped. Because of this, Retsos did not get to play any matches for Sheffield United before returning to Bayer Leverkusen.

Loan to Saint-Étienne

Later in 2020, Retsos went on another loan, this time to Saint-Étienne in France. He played a few games there, but more injuries meant he couldn't play for the club again after January 2021.

Playing for Hellas Verona

On January 25, 2022, Retsos moved to Hellas Verona, a club in Italy. He signed an 18-month contract with them.

Returning to Olympiacos on Loan

On August 31, 2022, Panagiotis Retsos returned to his first club, Olympiacos, on a loan deal. He then made a permanent move back to Olympiacos in 2023. He has continued to play for them, contributing to their success in various competitions.

Playing for Greece

Panagiotis Retsos also plays for his country, Greece. He made his first appearance for the Greek national team on August 31, 2017. This was a game against Estonia during the qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
