The Panalatinga Creek is a small waterway that flows through the southern parts of Adelaide, a city in South Australia, Australia. It's known as an urban creek because it runs through areas where people live.

Where Panalatinga Creek Flows

Panalatinga Creek is part of a larger water system called the Onkaparinga River catchment area. This means that all the rain that falls in this area eventually flows into the Onkaparinga River. The creek starts in the hills, specifically in the southern suburbs of Adelaide, near places like Chandlers Hill and Trott Park, South Australia.

The creek then flows until it joins another waterway called the Field River. This meeting point is close to the Southern Expressway. Today, Panalatinga Creek is quite narrow, but it has been important for a long time. In 1849, it was used as a water source for the early vineyards of John Reynell at his homestead, Chateau Reynella.

What's in a Name?

The name of the creek, Panalatinga, comes from the Kaurna language. The Kaurna people are the traditional owners of the land around Adelaide. The original Kaurna word was Pandlotinga. Sometimes, people might say the name a little differently, like Panatalinga, but Panalatinga is the common way to say it.
