The History of Panorama Park
Why Panorama Park Became a City
Panorama Park became a city because of a problem with road maintenance in the early 1950s. There was a dirt road called Park Avenue that was often muddy or icy. The nearby city of Bettendorf wasn't taking care of it.
So, the people living around Park Avenue decided to do something about it. They chose to create their own community, Panorama Park, in 1953. This way, they could pay for the road's upkeep themselves.
Staying Independent
Since becoming its own city, Panorama Park has remained independent. This has allowed its residents to pay lower taxes compared to people living in the surrounding city of Bettendorf.

Iowa's "Fastest Growing City?"
In 2006, the U.S. Census Bureau made an estimate that Panorama Park's population had grown to 261. This was a huge increase of 135%!
This estimate was based on a report from 2002 that said 97 building permits had been given out for new homes. However, this was a mistake. The City Clerk pointed out that the town only had about 54 houses in total.
The city planned to ask the Census Bureau to correct this estimate. If they do, Panorama Park will have been known as both the fastest-growing and the fastest-shrinking city in Iowa!
