He was picked by the Miami Dolphins in the 2009 NFL draft. Patrick also played college football for the USC Trojans and was part of the New York Jets team.

Early Life and High School Football

Patrick Turner grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. He went to Goodpasture Christian School in Madison, Tennessee. Patrick was a very talented wide receiver in high school. He won many All-American awards. These awards came during his sophomore, junior, and senior years.

In 2005, Turner played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This is a special game for top high school football players. He also played basketball until his second year of high school. Patrick was also on the track team for all four years.

Experts like ESPN's Tom Lemming saw his talent. They ranked him as the number one wide receiver in the country. He was also ranked fifth among the top 100 high school football players in 2005. After high school, he decided to play for the USC Trojans.

Patrick Turner started playing for the University of Southern California (USC) in 2005. As a freshman, he was a backup wide receiver. He caught 12 passes for 170 yards and scored 2 touchdowns. He played in 12 games that season. He only missed one game because of an injury.

Stepping Up as a Sophomore

In his second year, Turner became the Trojans' third receiver. He played alongside Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith. When Jarrett and Smith were injured, Turner stepped up. He had a great game against the Washington Huskies. In that game, he caught 12 passes for 116 yards.

Leading Receiver Expectations

Before the 2007 season, Turner was expected to be USC's top receiver. He was following in the footsteps of other great USC receivers. These included players like Mike Williams and Dwayne Jarrett. Turner showed impressive plays during spring training.

In 2007, Turner finished second on the team in receiving yards. He had 569 yards. Only tight end Fred Davis had more yards. When Davis left for the NFL, everyone expected Turner to become the main receiver in 2008.

Miami Dolphins Experience

The Miami Dolphins picked Patrick Turner in the third round of the 2009 NFL draft. He was the 87th player chosen overall. He played for the Dolphins in 2009. However, he was released after the 2010 preseason.

Time with the New York Jets

On September 5, 2010, the New York Jets claimed Turner. This means they picked him up after the Dolphins released him. He was waived by the Jets a few days later. But on September 10, 2010, he was re-signed to their practice squad. A practice squad is where players train with the team but are not on the main roster.

Later that month, Turner was added to the Jets' active roster. This meant he could play in games. After a game against the Buffalo Bills, Turner was released again. This happened on October 4, 2010. The team made room for other players returning from suspensions or injuries.

Turner was re-signed to the practice squad on October 6, 2010. He was then activated from the practice squad on November 18, 2010. This happened because another receiver, Jerricho Cotchery, was injured.

Patrick Turner was waived by the Jets again on September 3, 2011. He was re-signed to the practice squad the next day. On September 14, he was signed to the active roster once more.
