Patrik Jonas Andersson (born on August 18, 1971) is a Swedish former professional football player. He was a strong defender known for his skills on the field.
Patrik started his career with Malmö FF in the late 1980s. He then played for big clubs in England, Germany, and Spain. One of his biggest achievements was winning the 2000–01 UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich.
He played for the Swedish national team from 1992 to 2002. He played in 96 games for his country. Patrik was part of the Swedish team that won a bronze medal at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. He also played in the 1992 Summer Olympics, UEFA Euro 1992, and UEFA Euro 2000. He was also a squad player at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Patrik was named Sweden's best footballer of the year twice. He received the Guldbollen award in 1995 and 2001.

Patrik Andersson's Club Career
Starting Out in Sweden
Patrik Andersson was born in Bjärred, Sweden. He began playing football with his local club, Bjärreds IF. In 1988, he joined Malmö FF, a well-known club in Sweden's top league, Allsvenskan.
Playing for Blackburn Rovers
In December 1992, Patrik became a professional player. He moved to England to play for Blackburn Rovers. He stayed there for one year. He played in 12 Premier League games. Patrik was one of the first foreign players to join Blackburn Rovers. He was also one of the few international players in the first season of the new Premier League. He scored one goal for Blackburn. This goal was in a League Cup semi-final game.
Time with Borussia Mönchengladbach
In October 1993, Patrik moved to Germany. He joined Borussia Mönchengladbach. There, he helped the team win the German Cup in 1995. He played for the club until 1999.
Success with Bayern Munich
In June 1999, Patrik signed with Bayern Munich. This was a big move for him. He played his first game for Bayern on August 22, 1999.
His time at Bayern Munich was very successful. He won two Bundesliga championships. In the 2000–01 season, he scored a very important goal. It was the winning goal against Hamburger SV in the last minute of the final game. This goal secured the championship for Bayern. He also won another German Cup and the 2000–01 UEFA Champions League. Even though he missed a penalty in the Champions League final shootout, his team still won.
Moving to Barcelona
In 2001, Patrik moved to Spain. He joined La Liga giants Barcelona. Unfortunately, he had many injuries during his three seasons there. Because of these injuries, he only played in 19 league matches for Barcelona.
Returning to Malmö FF
In 2004, Patrik came back to Malmö FF in Sweden. He played in the Swedish league again after ten years away. That year, he was the team captain. He led Malmö to win their first Swedish league title in 15 years.
Patrik suffered another knee injury in August 2005. This happened during a Champions League qualifying game. On August 12, 2005, he announced that he was retiring from professional football.
Patrik Andersson's International Career
Patrik Andersson played a total of 96 games for the Swedish national team. He scored three goals for his country.
He won a bronze medal at the 1994 FIFA World Cup. This was a huge achievement for Sweden. Patrik also played in the team that reached the semi-finals at UEFA Euro 1992. He was part of the Swedish squad for UEFA Euro 2000 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup. He also played for Sweden at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
At Euro 2000, he received a red card in a game against Belgium. At the 2002 World Cup, Patrik got injured in the last training session. This meant he could not play in the tournament. Another player, Andreas Jakobsson, took his place.

In August 2010, Patrik Andersson became a scout for Manchester United in Scandinavia. A scout helps find new talented players. He worked for the club for one year.

Patrik comes from a football family. His father is Roy Andersson. Roy played over 300 games for Malmö and played 20 times for the Swedish national team. He was also in the 1978 FIFA World Cup. Patrik's brother is Daniel Andersson. Daniel was also a professional footballer and played for Sweden.
