Patti Davis (born October 21, 1952) is an American actress and author. She is known for her writing and acting roles. Patti is the daughter of Ronald Reagan, who was a U.S. president, and his second wife, Nancy Reagan.
Early Life and Education
Patricia Ann Reagan was born in Los Angeles, California, on October 21, 1952. Her parents were Ronald and Nancy Reagan. She has a younger brother named Ron Reagan. She also has an older adopted brother, Michael Reagan, and an older half-sister, Maureen Reagan.
Patti went to elementary school at The John Thomas Dye School in Bel Air. She graduated from the Orme School in 1970. She then studied creative writing and drama at Northwestern University. After that, she attended the University of Southern California for two years.
Patti decided to use her mother's maiden name, Davis, as her last name. She did this to create her own career path. Before her father became president, she was active in the anti-nuclear movement. She continued her activism even while her father was in office. This showed that she had different views from her family. She has never been part of the Republican Party.
Career
In the early 1980s, Patti Davis acted in several television shows. She then got her first book publishing deal. In 1986, she published her first novel, Home Front. She used parts of her own life to create the story. This made the book quite talked about.
After her second novel, Deadfall, she wrote an autobiography called The Way I See It. In this book, she shared many details about her family life. She has since said she regrets how she presented some of her thoughts in the book. However, she still stands by the ideas she shared.
Patti Davis has also appeared in magazines. In 2011, she posed for More magazine.
When her father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, Patti began writing a book about it. This book, called The Long Goodbye, was published in 2004. During this time, she also started writing for well-known magazines and newspapers. These included The New York Times, Newsweek, and Time. Her original screenplay, Spring Thaw, became a Hallmark Channel movie in 2007. The movie was called Sacrifices of the Heart.
Personal Life
In the 1970s, Patti Davis lived with Eagles guitarist Bernie Leadon. Together, they wrote the song "I Wish You Peace." This song appeared on the Eagles album One of These Nights.
In the 1980s, she dated actor Timothy Hutton. Later, she had a relationship with actor Peter Strauss. In 1984, she married Paul Grilley. He is a yoga instructor and helped create Yin Yoga. They divorced in 1990 and did not have any children. Patti Davis has not remarried since.
