How Patties Foods Started
Patties Foods began as a small bakery called Patties Bakeries. It was a cake shop in Lakes Entrance, Australia. In August 1966, a family named Rijs bought the bakery. They had moved to Australia from the Netherlands in 1956.
In 1967, the Rijs family started making pies and bread rolls. People loved their products, so the business grew quickly. They built and bought more shops and bakeries. In 1985, they built a new, bigger factory in Bairnsdale. This is where Patties Foods still makes its products today.
Growing Bigger and Better
The company kept growing over the years. In 1986, Patties started selling its products in Melbourne. By 1995, they were even sending their food to New Zealand!
In 1996, Patties decided to focus only on pastries. They sold their bread business to another company. This allowed them to make even more pies and pastries. The factory in Bairnsdale got bigger with new equipment. In 1998, they added a special spiral freezer. In 2000, they installed a new production line. This helped them make many more pasties, sausage rolls, and finger foods.
In 2003, Patties Foods bought some other popular Australian brands. These included Four'n Twenty, Herbert Adams, and Nanna's. By 2004, Patties was making all these products in their Bairnsdale factory. In 2006, Patties Foods was honored for its success. They were added to the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame.
Patties Foods became a public company in 2006. This meant people could buy shares in the company. The Rijs brothers, who were the sons of the founders, still owned a large part of the company. In 2007, Patties bought two more businesses, Chefs Pride and Creative Gourmet. They also started making gluten-free foods.
In 2016, a company called Pacific Equity Partners bought Patties Foods. Later, in 2022, Patties was sold to another investment firm called PAG.
