Pau Cubarsí Paredes, born on January 22, 2007, is a talented Spanish professional footballer. He plays as a central defender for the famous Barcelona club and is also a key player for the Spanish national team. He is known for his calm play and strong defense on the field.

Pau Cubarsí's Early Life

Pau Cubarsí Paredes was born on January 22, 2007, in a town called Bescanó in Catalonia, Spain. His parents are Gloria Paredes and Robert Cubarsí. He also has an older sister named Irene.

When Pau was 11 years old, in 2018, he joined La Masia. This is a famous youth academy for Barcelona, where many great footballers learn and train. It was about an hour and a half away from his home.

Pau's first language is Catalan, which is spoken in Catalonia. He mentioned during the 2024 Summer Olympics that he mostly spoke Catalan because he had always lived in Catalonia.

Cubarsí's Club Journey

Pau started his football journey at Girona before joining Barcelona in 2018. He quickly moved up through Barcelona's youth teams. He even became one of the youngest Barcelona players to play in the UEFA Youth League, a competition for young European teams.

Stepping Up to the First Team

In April 2023, Pau got a big chance to train with Barcelona's main team for the first time. The team's coach, Xavi, called him up. Just a few months later, in July, he signed his first professional contract with the club.

Pau made his official debut for the first team on January 18, 2024, in a match called the Copa del Rey. He came into the game during the second half. His first time starting a match was in La Liga, Spain's top football league, just before his 17th birthday.

Breaking Records in Europe

Pau continued to impress. On March 12, 2024, he played his first game in the UEFA Champions League, which is a huge competition for Europe's best clubs. He was even named "Player of the Match" in a 3-1 win against Napoli. He became the youngest player ever, at 17 years and 50 days old, to debut in the knockout stage of this competition.

He also became the youngest defender to start in the Champions League quarter-finals. In May 2024, Barcelona showed how much they valued him by extending his contract until 2029. This new contract included a very high buyout clause, showing he is a key player for the future.

First Goal and Big Matches

On February 25, 2025, Pau scored his first goal for Barcelona. It was a header in a Copa del Rey semi-final match. He also played a great game in Barcelona's big 5-0 win in the 2026 Supercopa de España semi-final.

However, not every game was perfect. In a UEFA Champions League quarter-final match in 2026, he received a red card after a video review. This was a tough moment for the team.

Olympic Gold and World Cup Glory
