Paul Alexandre Belmondo (born April 23, 1963) is a French racing driver and actor. He is known for racing in Formula One for the March and Pacific teams.
Paul comes from a famous family. His father was the well-known actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, and his grandfather, also named Paul Belmondo, was a famous sculptor. In the early 1980s, Paul became known for his friendship with Princess Stéphanie of Monaco.
Racing Career
Early Races and Formula One
Before reaching Formula One, Paul Belmondo raced in smaller competitions like Formula 3 and Formula 3000 starting in 1987. He never finished in the top 10 in these championships.
In 1992, he got his chance to race in Formula One with the March team. He joined as a pay driver, which means he helped fund the team in exchange for a spot as a driver. His best result was a ninth-place finish at the 1992 Hungarian Grand Prix. However, he struggled to qualify for many races. He eventually ran out of money and was replaced by another driver.
Two years later, in 1994, he returned to F1 with the Pacific Grand Prix team. Unfortunately, the team's car was not very fast or competitive. He only managed to qualify for two races and was often slower than his teammate, Bertrand Gachot.
Life After Formula One
After his time in Formula One, Belmondo switched to GT racing. This type of racing uses cars that are similar to high-performance sports cars you might see on the road. He often drove a Chrysler Viper GTS-R.
He even started his own racing team called Paul Belmondo Racing. His team competed in big events like the FIA GT Championship and the Le Mans Endurance Series. The team stopped racing in 2007.
Personal Life
In 1990, Paul Belmondo married Luana Tenca, a former model who is now a TV chef. Together, they have three children. One of their sons, Victor, is an actor, following in his grandfather's footsteps.
In June 2024, Paul and Luana announced that they had separated and were getting a divorce.
