Paul Harrison Tibbitt IV was born on May 13, 1968. He is an American animator, writer, and voice actor. He is most famous for his work on the cartoon series SpongeBob SquarePants.
After the creator of SpongeBob, Stephen Hillenburg, stepped down in 2004, Paul Tibbitt took over as the main person in charge of the show. This role is called a showrunner. He also started voicing the character Potty the Parrot, a role that Stephen Hillenburg used to do. Paul Tibbitt also directed his first movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. He studied animation at the California Institute of the Arts.
In 2015, two other creative people, Vincent Waller and Marc Ceccarelli, took over Paul Tibbitt's role as supervising producer and showrunner for SpongeBob. Paul Tibbitt left the series after its ninth season. He was going to work on another SpongeBob movie, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run. However, he later passed his directing and writing duties for that movie to Tim Hill.

Paul Tibbitt joined the SpongeBob SquarePants team early on. He worked as a writer and storyboard artist. A storyboard artist draws pictures to plan out how a cartoon episode will look. He also directed some episodes.
From 2005 to 2015, he was the showrunner and supervising producer for SpongeBob. This meant he was in charge of the show's overall creative direction. He also became an executive producer, which is a very high-level role in TV production.
Voice Acting Roles
Besides his work behind the scenes, Paul Tibbitt also lent his voice to some characters. He voiced Mama Krabs and DoodleBob. He is perhaps best known for voicing Potty the Parrot. Potty is the puppet parrot belonging to Patchy the Pirate.

Paul Tibbitt also helped create several movies. He was a screenwriter and storyboard artist for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in 2004. He also directed the live-action parts of SpongeBob's Atlantis SquarePantis and SpongeBob's Truth or Square.
His biggest movie role was directing The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water in 2015. He also helped write the story for that film. In this movie, he even voiced a character named Kyle.
