Paulo César Carpegiani is a famous Brazilian football player and coach. He was born on February 7, 1949, in Erechim, Brazil. He played as a midfielder, which is a player who helps both defense and attack on the field.

Playing Football
Carpegiani started his professional football journey at Sport Club Internacional in Porto Alegre. He played there from 1970 to 1977. During this time, his team won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A (the top Brazilian football league) twice, in 1975 and 1976.
After that, he joined Flamengo and played for them from 1977 to 1980. With Flamengo, he won another Campeonato Brasileiro Série A title in 1980.
Coaching Football Teams
After he stopped playing, Carpegiani became a football coach. His first coaching job was with Flamengo. He led them to amazing victories in 1981. They won the Copa Libertadores de América, which is a huge club competition in South America. They also won the Intercontinental Cup by beating Liverpool. In 1982, he helped Flamengo win another Brazilian Championship.
Later, he coached many other teams. In 1992, he was the coach for Barcelona Sporting Club in Ecuador. In 2007, he worked with Corinthians.
One of his most notable coaching roles was with the Paraguay national team. He coached them from 1996 to 1998. Under his guidance, Paraguay had a strong performance in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, only losing to France in extra time.
He also coached Vitória in 2009 and Atlético Paranaense in 2010.
