Paulo Xisto Pinto Júnior (born April 30, 1969) is a Brazilian musician. He is famous as the bassist for the heavy metal band Sepultura. Paulo joined Sepultura in 1984. He became their second bassist after Roberto Raffan left. Even though no original members are left, Paulo is the longest-serving member of Sepultura. He did not play on their albums until Chaos A.D. in 1993.
About Paulo Jr.
His Early Life
Paulo Jr. was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. He grew up with two brothers and a younger sister. His father worked as a lawyer. Paulo got his first bass guitar, a white Giannini, when he was 15 years old.
His parents were very supportive of the band when it was just starting. Paulo Jr. once said, "The support of the parents was one of the keys to our success." He explained that his parents let the band use an empty room for practice. They also lent their car to carry equipment. Plus, they made lunch for everyone during rehearsals!
Musical Inspirations
Paulo Jr. was inspired by many famous bass players. These include Steve Harris, Geddy Lee, Geezer Butler, Cliff Burton, and Gene Simmons. Paulo plays his bass with a guitar pick. This is different from some bassists who use their fingers.
Paulo Jr.'s Music Career
With Sepultura
In 1984, Paulo Jr. met the Cavalera brothers. They met in the Santa Teresa neighborhood of Belo Horizonte. A common friend introduced them. Paulo Jr. joined Sepultura after their first bass player, Roberto Raffan, left.
Paulo Jr.'s first concert with Sepultura was at the Ideal Club in Santa Teresa. He has been with the band longer than anyone else. Even though he was part of the band early on, he did not play on their studio albums until Chaos A.D. in 1993. Before that, Andreas Kisser played both guitar and bass on most albums.
With Cultura Tres
In 2019, Paulo Jr. joined brothers Alejandro Londoño Montoya and Juan M De Ferrari Montoya. They wanted to bring back their band, Cultura Tres. This band plays sludge and thrash metal music. In 2023, Cultura Tres released their album called Camino de Brujos. They also released music videos for three songs from the album. Paulo Jr. is currently touring with Cultura Tres. They have concerts planned in Europe and South America.
With The Unabomber Files
In 2009, Paulo Jr. helped form a new band called The Unabomber Files. He joined Alan Wallace and André Márcio from Eminence, and Vladimir Korg from Chakal. In 2013, this group released a six-song EP. An EP is like a mini-album. They also released a short video for their song "Buried In My Bunker."
Other Music Projects
Paulo Jr. has also played bass for other artists. In 2007, he played on Sayowa's second album. In 2013, he was a guest musician on Eminence's fourth album, The Stalker. He added extra bass parts to their songs.

Hobbies and Interests
Paulo Jr. enjoys different hobbies. He practices jiu jitsu, which is a type of martial art. He also loves football. He is a big fan of the football club Clube Atlético Mineiro. Paulo Jr. lives in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Helping Others
Since 1999, Paulo Jr. has organized special football games every year. These games are for charity. Former Brazilian football players, TV stars, musicians, and band members play in them. The games take place in Nova Lima, Brazil, near Belo Horizonte.
People who came to watch the games were asked to donate food. They would bring a pound of food as their "ticket." All the food collected was given to local charities.
In April 2008, Paulo Jr. received a special award. It was called the Medalha da Inconfidência. This award was created in 1952. It honors people who have helped the state of Minas Gerais and Brazil grow. The award ceremony was held in Ouro Preto. The Governor of Minas Gerais, Aécio Neves, hosted the event.
