Pedro Solbes Mira (born August 31, 1942 – died March 18, 2023) was a Spanish economist. He was a very important person in Spain's government. He helped manage the country's money and economy for many years.

He was also the president of FRIDE, which is a special group in Madrid that studies big ideas.

Life and Career of Pedro Solbes

Pedro Solbes was born in a town called Pinoso in Spain. This was on August 31, 1942.

Even though he wasn't officially part of a political party, he always worked with the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. From 1985 to 1991, he was a top official for European matters. He helped Spain work with other countries in Europe.

Later, he became a minister. From 1991 to 1993, he was the minister for agriculture and fisheries. This meant he helped with farming and fishing in Spain. Then, from 1993 to 1996, he was the minister of finance. This was a big job, as he managed Spain's money.

He was also a member of parliament, representing the area of Alicante. He held this position until 1999.

Pedro Solbes also worked for the European Union. He was a European Commissioner for economic and money matters. This meant he helped manage the economy for all of Europe. He held this job from 1999 to 2004.

After that, he returned to the Spanish government. From 2004 to 2009, he was the second vice president of Spain. At the same time, he was also the minister of economy and finance. He helped lead the country and manage its finances during these years.

Pedro Solbes passed away on March 18, 2023, at the age of 80. He died from cancer.
