Penhold is a town located in central Alberta, Canada. It is surrounded by Red Deer County. The town is about 16 kilometers (10 miles) south of Red Deer. It sits where Highway 2A and Highway 42 meet. Penhold is also about 128 kilometers (80 miles) north of Calgary. The Red Deer River is located to its east.

Penhold's Story: A Look at Its History
Penhold started as a small stop along the Canadian Pacific Railway. These stops were called "whistle stops" because trains would often just whistle as they passed through. The name "Penhold" likely came about when this railway stop was created.
Penhold officially became a village on May 4, 1904. Later, in 1981, it grew into a town. This happened because many more people moved to Penhold in the late 1970s.
RCAF Penhold: A Former Air Force Base
During World War II, a special air force base was built near Penhold. This base was called the Royal Canadian Air Force Station. It was an important place for the Canadian military. The base stayed open for many years but finally closed down in 1994.
