Where is Penn Located?
Penn is found along Penn Road. This road is between two other places called Walton and Flagg. It is in the Central Oregon Coast Range, which is a mountain range. Penn is also east of the city of Florence. A stream called Wildcat Creek flows right by Penn. This creek eventually flows into the Siuslaw River.
The Story of the Post Office
The post office for Penn had a different name: McGlynn. Postal officials decided not to use the name Penn. They thought it might be confusing because other places or things might have a similar name. So, they chose McGlynn instead. This name honored Thomas McGlynn. He was the person who owned the land where the post office was built. The McGlynn post office first opened in 1923. It stayed open for about 15 years before closing in 1938.
