Where is Penns Creek Located?
Penns Creek is found at these coordinates: 40.860555 degrees North and 77.058207 degrees West. A creek with the same name, Penns Creek, forms its northern border.
The community is located along PA Route 104. To the south, you'll find Middleburg. To the north, you'll find Mifflinburg.
The U.S. Census Bureau says Penns Creek covers about 1.1 square miles (2.8 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the CDP.
Who Lives in Penns Creek?
In 2020, about 694 people lived in Penns Creek. This number comes from the U.S. Decennial Census.
Back in 2000, there were 668 people living here. These people lived in 221 households, and 165 of these were families. Most people were White (97.31%). A small number were African American, Native American, or Pacific Islander. Some people were from other races, or two or more races. About 1.05% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
Many households (38%) had children under 18 living with them. Most households (60.2%) were married couples living together. The average household had 2.76 people.
The population had a mix of ages. About 27.5% were under 18 years old. About 8.4% were 65 years or older. The average age was 31 years old.

The History of Penns Creek
Penns Creek was started in 1806 by Lt. Col. George Weirick. He was a soldier in the War of 1812. His father, Capt. Wilhelm Weirick, fought in the American Revolutionary War. George Weirick's grandfather, Johann Georg Weyrich, came from Germany.
The village was first called Weirickstown. George Weirick was important in the area. He served as a county commissioner and a justice of the peace. He was also a member of the General Assembly of Pennsylvania. He is buried in the Salem Church Cemetery in Snyder County.
Later, the village name changed to Centreville. But there was another Centreville in Crawford County. So, the name was changed again. Sometime after 1842, the village took the name of the nearby creek, Penns Creek.
The village was first part of Northumberland County. Then it became part of Union County. On March 2, 1855, Penns Creek became part of Snyder County. Snyder County was named after Governor Simon Snyder. He was a very popular governor of Pennsylvania. He was the only governor to serve three terms.
