Pesas is a special neighborhood, or barrio, located in the town of Ciales, Puerto Rico. It's a part of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 2,361 people lived there.

A Look Back: History of Pesas

After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States in 1898. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the U.S.

In 1899, the United States Department of War counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that 994 people lived in Pesas back then. At that time, it was sometimes called Pesa.
