Gold in Ancient Times

Since the time of the Spanish colonial period, Petaquilla was a key route for gold explorers. Many stories and historical writings mention this area. It was a place where special workshops called "foundries" were set up. Here, gold was melted down and marked to show it belonged to the Spanish Crown. The Spanish rulers wanted to claim all the gold found.

The discovery of mineral deposits around Petaquilla encouraged the Spanish. In the 1600s, they started simple mining operations. They used basic tools and methods to get the gold out of the ground.

Modern Mining Today

Today, Petaquilla is still an important mining area. Modern mining operations use advanced technology to extract minerals. Some of these projects include the Petaquilla's Molejon project and the Cobre mine, Panama. These mines continue the long history of mineral extraction in the region.
