Peter in Magicland: A Fantastic Journey is an exciting German animated children's fantasy film from 1990. Its original German title is Peterchens Mondfahrt. This movie is based on the classic children's book Little Peter's Journey to the Moon by Gerdt von Bassewitz. It first came out in Germany on November 29, 1990.

The Amazing Story of Peter in Magicland

A Mysterious Visitor Arrives

One night, Peter and his sister Annabelle are sleeping. Suddenly, a strange musical sound wakes them up. They look around their bedroom. What do they find? A tiny beetle is playing a violin!

The children promise not to hurt him. The beetle then introduces himself as Mr. Buzzworthy. He is the 50th beetle in his family line.

Mr. Buzzworthy's Sad Tale

Mr. Buzzworthy shares a sad story. Two hundred years ago, his ancestor was resting on a birch tree. An evil giant, known as the Moon Man, chopped down the tree. He took the tree and also stole the beetle's sixth leg! Because of this, every Buzzworthy since then has been born with only five legs.

Soon after, a kind Night Fairy visits Mr. Buzzworthy. She tells him that she has punished the giant. The Moon Man is now banished to the moon! The Fairy advises the beetle to find two brave and kind children. These children must be willing to go on a dangerous journey to the moon. They will help him get his missing leg back.

Starting the Journey to the Moon

Peter and Annabelle hear the story. They quickly agree to help Mr. Buzzworthy. The beetle teaches them how to fly! Three official beetles approve their mission. Then, the children and Mr. Buzzworthy fly off into the sky.

On their way, they meet some playful Weather Gods. The children manage to avoid their tricks. Next, they reach the Sandman. He is a wizard whose job is to make children fall asleep. They explain their quest to him. The Sandman agrees to help! He takes them to the Night Fairy's castle. They travel in a sleigh pulled by beautiful butterflies.

Adventures on the Way to the Fairy's Castle

The Weather Gods try to stop them again. But Peter, Annabelle, and Mr. Buzzworthy are clever. Their sleigh gets stuck on the Milky Way. They work together to free it. Finally, they arrive at the Night Fairy's castle. A big party is happening there with all the Gods!

The children remind the Fairy of her promise. She gives them a Giant Polar Bear to help them. This bear will take them to the moon. The Fairy also tells them that the Gods will help them if they need it.

Reaching the Moon and Facing the Moon Man

They finally reach the moon! To find snacks for the Giant Polar Bear, they visit the Christmas and Easter worlds. After getting some food, they continue their journey. They have to fight off some unfriendly wolves.

Then, they find a giant cannon. This cannon shoots Peter, Annabelle, and Mr. Buzzworthy to the top of a tall mountain. The birch tree with the beetle's leg is waiting there! They come face-to-face with the Moon Man himself.

The Final Battle and a Dream Come True

The Gods arrive to help the children. They work together to defeat the Moon Man. They freeze him solid! Peter quickly takes the leg from the tree branch. He attaches it back to Mr. Buzzworthy. The beetle is so happy to have his sixth leg back!

As the sun rises, the ice around the Moon Man melts. He tries to attack them again. But Peter, Annabelle, and Mr. Buzzworthy escape! They fly into a chimney. Suddenly, they wake up in their own beds. Was it all a dream?

Their mother checks on them. Peter and Annabelle look around. On their windowsill, they see a beetle. This beetle has all six of his legs! The beetle flies away. Peter and Annabelle wonder if they will ever fly with him again.
