Discovering Peters Dome

Peters Dome is a very tall mountain, reaching 10,571-foot (3,222 m) into the sky. It is known for its rounded, dome-like shape, which is covered in snow and ice all year round. This makes it look like a giant, white cap on the landscape.

Location and Surroundings

Peters Dome is an important part of the Alaska Range, a long chain of mountains. It is found in Denali Borough, a region in Alaska. The mountain is completely inside Denali National Park and Preserve, a huge area protected for its wildlife and natural beauty.

A Neighbor to Denali

Even though Peters Dome is very close to Denali, the two mountains are separated by a deep valley. This valley is called the Peters Basin. It was carved out by glaciers over thousands of years.

The Peters Glacier

The Peters Basin is also the starting point for a huge river of ice called the Peters Glacier. This glacier flows down from the mountains. The top of Peters Dome is much higher than where the glacier begins, about 3,000 feet (910 m) above it.
