Early life and beginnings
Mehdi Benjelloun was born to a Moroccan father and a French mother.
In July 2017, he finished high school with top honors in science. He started studying at Paris-Dauphine University in September 2017. However, he left the university in March 2018 to focus more on his music career.
Benjelloun learned to play many instruments, including piano, cello, bass, and guitar. But he loved electro house sounds the most because they allowed him to create "unlimited combinations of music." He started writing his first songs secretly in his room. His early music interests included electronica and classical music. The name "Petit Biscuit" (which means "Little Cookie" in French) comes from his love for French pastries his grandmother used to make.
Music career highlights
Petit Biscuit first shared his music on SoundCloud. He was soon noticed by a music distributor called Electro Posé. Through them, he released "Sunset Lover" on June 15, 2015. This song was the first single from his first album, also called Petit Biscuit. "Sunset Lover" became a huge hit, getting over 62 million views and more than 400 million streams!
He released other songs like "You," "Palms," "Night Trouble," "Midnight Sky," and "Memories" in 2015. His first album, Petit Biscuit, came out on May 13, 2016.
Petit Biscuit's first full-length album, Presence, was released in December 2017. Music critics called it a "powerful" album. It was even named "Album of the Week" in Australia by Triple J radio. The album features other artists like Lido, Bipolar Sunshine, and Cautious Clay. It also includes popular songs like "Waterfall" and "Sunset Lover." He performed at the Victoires de la Musique in Paris, which is like the French version of the Brit Awards. He was also nominated for his album, Presence. To keep control of his music, he started his own music company called "Petit Biscuit Music."
On April 15, 2018, he performed at the famous Coachella Festival for the first time. He has toured all over the world, visiting countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Mexico, and Canada.
In early 2019, Petit Biscuit released "Wide Awake," which was described as a cool electronic song. He also released "We Were Young," featuring JP Cooper, which was called a "young love daydream."
On October 30, 2020, Petit Biscuit released his second studio album, Parachute.
