Company History
How Petrol Ofisi Started
Petrol Ofisi was created on February 18, 1941. It began as a company owned by the Government of Turkey. Its main job was to bring in, store, process, and deliver petroleum products.
In 1983, the company changed its structure. It became a joint stock company. This means its ownership was divided into shares that could be bought and sold.
Changes in Ownership
On July 24, 2000, Petrol Ofisi became a private company. This means the government no longer owned it. A company called Doğan Holding bought 51% of its shares first.
Later, on March 13, 2006, an Austrian oil company named OMV bought a part of Petrol Ofisi. OMV purchased 34% of the shares. This deal was worth a lot of money, over one billion US dollars.
Then, on October 22, 2010, OMV bought even more shares from Doğan Holding. This made OMV the main owner of Petrol Ofisi. They owned almost all of the company, about 95.75%.
In 2021, Petrol Ofisi started working with Chevron Brands International. They began making mineral oil products together, including those under the Texaco brand.
Sports Sponsorships
Petrol Ofisi has supported many sports events. From 2006 to 2008, it was the main sponsor for the Formula One Turkish Grand Prix. This is a very famous car racing event.
The company also sponsored a racing team called Fisichella Motor Sport. This team competed in the GP2 Series during 2006 and 2007.
