Petrol Ofisi A.Ş. is a big company in Turkey that sells fuel and lubricants. Think of them as a major gas station chain! A company from the Netherlands called Vitol Group owns Petrol Ofisi. Vitol bought Petrol Ofisi in 2017. In 2022, Petrol Ofisi had over 1900 fuel stations across Turkey.
Company History and Growth
Petrol Ofisi started on February 18, 1941. It was first owned by the Turkish government. Its job was to bring in, store, make, and sell oil products. In 1983, it became a joint stock company. This means its ownership was divided into shares that could be bought and sold.
Becoming a Private Company
On July 24, 2000, Petrol Ofisi became a private company. This process is called "privatization." It means the government sold its ownership to private companies. At first, a company called Doğan Holding bought 51% of Petrol Ofisi's shares.
Later, on March 13, 2006, an Austrian oil company named OMV bought 34% of the shares. They paid about 1.054 billion US dollars. After this, Doğan Holding's share in Petrol Ofisi became smaller.
Changes in Ownership
On October 22, 2010, OMV announced they would buy even more shares from Doğan Holding. They bought 54.17% more shares for 1 billion Euros. This made OMV own almost all of Petrol Ofisi, with a total of 95.75% of the shares. This deal was finished on December 22, 2010.
In 2021, Petrol Ofisi made an agreement with Chevron Brands International (Chevron). Because of this, Petrol Ofisi started making mineral oil products under the Texaco brand.
