Pewaukee Lake is a beautiful lake found in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. It's the biggest lake in the area known as "Lake Country" in Waukesha County.
Pewaukee Lake is about five miles (8 km) long and one mile (1.6 km) wide. It has an average depth of 15 feet (4.6 m), but in some spots, it goes down to a maximum depth of 46 feet (14 m).
Fun on the Water
Pewaukee Lake is famous for its exciting sailing races. People come from all over to watch or take part! The lake often hosts big national sailing events. These are usually organized by the Pewaukee Yacht Club, which is located on the southern side of the lake.
Fish in the Lake
The lake is home to many different kinds of fish. If you go fishing, you might catch a bluegill or a largemouth bass. There are also smallmouth bass and bigger fish like muskellunge (often called "muskie"). You might even find a tiger muskellunge ("tiger muskie"). Other fish include northern pike, walleye, and yellow perch. You can also find non-native carp in the lake.
Lake History
For a long time, Pewaukee Lake has been a popular summer spot. Many people from Milwaukee would visit the lake to enjoy the warm weather. Back in the 1800s, during the winter, people would even cut ice from the lake. This ice was then taken to Milwaukee for people to use.
High Waters in 2008
In the spring and summer of 2008, Pewaukee Lake experienced very high water levels. This caused some flooding in the areas around the lake. The floods led to a lot of damage to nearby properties.
