Peyla is a small, unincorporated community located in Vermilion Lake Township, which is part of Saint Louis County, Minnesota, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes or buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area like a township or county.
Where is Peyla Located?
Peyla is found about four miles west of a town called Tower. It's situated right where three important roads meet: State Highway 169, State Highway 1, and Saint Louis County Road 77, also known as Angus Road. This makes it a small crossroads in the beautiful Minnesota landscape.
How Peyla Got Its Name
The community of Peyla has a bit of history tied to its name. A post office was opened there in 1907. This post office helped people send and receive mail in the area. It stayed open for several years, until 1924. The community was named after an early postmaster, a person in charge of the post office, named Peter Peyla. So, the name "Peyla" honors one of its first important residents.
