Pfungen is a town in Switzerland. It's located in the canton of Zürich, which is like a state or region. It's part of the Winterthur district.

A Look Back in Time
Pfungen is quite an old place! We first hear about it in history books way back in the year 993. Back then, it was called Funginga.
Where is Pfungen?
Pfungen covers an area of about 5 square kilometers (about 2 square miles). A big part of this land, about 41.6%, is covered by forests. Another 32.3% is used for farming.
About 24% of the land has buildings or roads on it. The remaining 2% is made up of things like rivers or mountains. In 1996, homes and other buildings took up 16.2% of the total area. Roads and other transport areas made up 7.6%.
The town is in the lower Töss Valley. The main village sits on a small hill called the Multberg. There are also other small areas of homes in the Rums river valley. You can also find industrial buildings in a place called Bruni.

Getting Around
The Pfungen-Neftenbach railway station is a train stop in Pfungen. It's served by the Zurich S-Bahn line S41. This train line connects Winterthur and Waldshut.
