Oberembrach is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. It is part of the Bülach district.

History of Oberembrach
Oberembrach was first mentioned in old records in the year 1274. At that time, it was called Obern-Emmerach.
However, Oberembrach was not its own independent town until 1809. Before that year, it was part of the nearby municipality of Embrach.
Geography of Oberembrach
Oberembrach covers an area of about 10.2 square kilometers (about 3.9 square miles). A large part of this land, 58.3%, is used for farming. Forests cover 34.1% of the area.
About 7.3% of the land has buildings or roads. The rest, a very small part (0.2%), is made up of rivers or other non-productive areas.
Location and Villages
The municipality is located in the upper Wildbachtal valley. It includes the main village of Oberembrach. This village is a Haufendorf, which means it grew in an unplanned way with buildings close together around a central area.
Besides the main village, Oberembrach also includes several smaller villages called hamlets. These include Hausen, Madlikon, Mühlberg, Ober- and Untermettmenstetten, Ober- and Unterwagenburg, Rotenfluh, Sonnenbühl, Stigen, and Stürzikon.
Over the years, some hamlets have moved to other municipalities. In 1871, Augwil and Vordermarchlen became part of Lufingen. Later, in 1927, Eigental, Hinter- and Vorderbänikon were transferred to Kloten.
Population and People
As of 2007, about 6.8% of the people living in Oberembrach were from other countries. Over the past ten years, the population has slightly decreased.
Languages Spoken
Most people in Oberembrach speak German. About 95.1% of the population speaks German as their main language. French is the second most common language, spoken by 1.0% of the people. Portuguese is the third most common, spoken by 0.8%.
Age Groups
In 2000, children and teenagers (ages 0–19) made up 24.5% of the population. Adults (ages 20–64) were the largest group, at 63.9%. Seniors (over 64 years old) made up 11.5% of the population.

Many adults in Oberembrach have a good education. About 88.8% of people aged 25-64 have finished high school or gone on to higher education. This includes university or a specialized college called a Fachhochschule.
