Phagu Chauhan (born 1 January 1948) is an important Indian politician. He currently serves as the 20th Governor of Meghalaya. Before this, he was the 29th Governor of Bihar. He has also been a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh. He won this seat a record six times, representing different political parties.

About Phagu Chauhan
His Early Life
Phagu Chauhan was born on January 1, 1948. His birthplace was the village of Sekhupur in the Azamgarh district of what is now Uttar Pradesh. His father's name was Kharpattu Chauhan. He completed his education and is a graduate.
His Family
Mr. Chauhan is married to Muhari Devi. Together, they have a large family with three sons and four daughters.
His Journey in Politics
Starting His Political Path
Phagu Chauhan began his political journey in 1985. He joined the Dalit Mazdoor Kisan Party. That year, he was elected as an MLA for the first time. An MLA is a representative elected by the people to make laws for their state.
Winning Elections
After his first win, he ran in many more elections for the Legislative Assembly. He represented different parties over the years. He became very successful, winning the Ghosi seat a maximum number of times.
In the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election, he ran as a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party. He won the Ghosi seat again. He defeated his opponent, Abbas Ansari, by more than 7,000 votes.
Becoming a Governor
In July 2019, Phagu Chauhan was appointed as the 29th Governor of Bihar. A Governor is like the head of a state, representing the President of India. They oversee the state government.
During his time as Governor of Bihar, he was also the Chancellor of the state universities. This means he had an important role in managing these universities. There were some challenges during this period. For example, some universities faced delays in their academic sessions and exams. Students expressed their concerns about these issues and asked for improvements.
