Philip Abbott (born March 20, 1924 – died February 23, 1998) was an American actor. He was known for playing many different types of characters in movies and TV shows. He appeared in several films and lots of television series. One of his most famous roles was Arthur Ward in the crime show The F.B.I.

Early Life and Education

Philip Abbott was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. He went to Fordham University in New York City. Later, he studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse. He also served in the United States Army during World War II.

Acting Career Highlights

Abbott played important supporting roles in many films during the 1950s and 1960s. One of these movies was Miracle of the White Stallions (1963).

He appeared as a guest star in over one hundred TV shows. This was between 1952 and 1995. Some of these shows included:

  • Justice, a show about legal help in New York.
  • The Eleventh Hour, a medical show about mental health.
  • Perry Mason, where he appeared twice.
  • Stoney Burke and Kentucky Jones.

Philip Abbott is best remembered for his role as Assistant Director Arthur Ward. He played this character on the ABC series The F.B.I. In this show, he worked alongside Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., who played Inspector Lewis Erskine.

Later Life and Passing

Philip Abbott passed away in 1998 in Tarzana, California. He was 73 years old. He is buried at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Los Angeles.
