Philip Carey (born Eugene Joseph Carey, July 15, 1925 – February 6, 2009) was an American actor. He was very famous for playing the character Asa Buchanan on the TV show One Life to Live for almost 30 years.

Early Life and Education
Philip Carey was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, on July 15, 1925. He grew up in different parts of New York, including Rosedale, Queens and Malverne, New York.
He later studied drama at the University of Miami. This helped him prepare for his acting career.
Acting Career Highlights
Before becoming an actor, Carey served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a soldier during World War II and also during the Korean War.
Carey started his acting career in 1950. One of his first movie roles was in Operation Pacific with John Wayne. He appeared in many other films, like Calamity Jane with Doris Day in 1953. He also acted in Mister Roberts (1955) and The Long Gray Line (1955).
In 1956, Carey starred in the TV series Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers. He also guest-starred in popular shows like The Rifleman and The Lucy Show. In The Lucy Show, he played a boyfriend of Lucy Carmichael, played by Lucille Ball.
Carey also appeared in an episode of All in the Family in 1971. He played Steve, a friend of the main character, Archie Bunker. Later, he was known for funny TV commercials for Granny Goose potato chips. In these ads, he played a tough cowboy and called himself "Granny Goose."
Starring in One Life to Live
Philip Carey joined the TV show One Life to Live in 1980. He played the role of Asa Buchanan, a powerful and wealthy businessman. He became one of the characters who married the most times on daytime TV.
Carey played Asa Buchanan for many years. He even appeared as Asa in episodes of another show, All My Children. In 2006, he faced health challenges. He decided to leave One Life to Live in 2007. His character, Asa, died off-screen in August 2007.
However, Carey returned to the show a few times after his character's death. He appeared as Asa's ghost or in videotaped messages. His last appearance was in December 2008.
Personal Life
Philip Carey was married twice. In 1949, he married Maureen Peppler. They had three children: Jeff, Linda, and Lisa. This marriage later ended.
In 1976, Carey married Colleen Welch. They had two children, Sean and Shannon. Philip Carey was good friends with the actors who played his sons on One Life to Live, Clint Ritchie and Robert S. Woods.
His Passing
Philip Carey passed away on February 6, 2009, at the age of 83.
