Philip Edward "Brave" Davis is an important politician from The Bahamas. He was born on June 7, 1951. Since 2021, he has been the Prime Minister of the Bahamas.
Before becoming Prime Minister, he served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Cat Island, Rum Cay & San Salvador. He held this position from 1992 to 1997, and then again from 2002 until now. From 2012 to 2017, he was the Deputy Prime Minister under Perry Christie. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition from 2017 to 2021. In 2021, he led his party, the Progressive Liberal Party, to win the election and became Prime Minister.

Early Life and Education
Philip Davis was born in Nassau on June 7, 1951. He was the oldest of eight children. His mother, Dorothy, worked as a domestic helper. His father, Brave Edward Davis, was a firefighter.
Young Philip spent his early years with his grandparents on Cat Island. He went to Old Bight All Age School there. Later, he moved back to Nassau and continued his schooling at Eastern Schools. He graduated from St. John's College. Growing up, his family was not wealthy. Philip started working odd jobs from the age of seven to help his family.
Becoming a Lawyer
After finishing his school exams, Philip Davis worked in construction for a short time. Then, he got a job at a bank called Barclays. However, he soon decided he wanted to study law.
He began working as a clerk at a law firm called Wallace-Whitfield & Barnwell. He studied hard and completed his legal training in just three years. In 1975, he officially became a lawyer in The Bahamas. He served as the vice president and later the president of the Bahamas Bar Association. He also became a partner at a well-known law firm. In 2015, he was given the special title of Queen's Counsel (QC).
Political Journey
Philip Davis became involved in politics at a young age. He started by helping with campaigns for the Progressive Liberal Party in 1967. His first time being elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) was in 1992. He represented the area of Cat Island, Rum Cay & San Salvador.
He lost his seat in the 1997 election but won it back in 2002. Since then, he has continued to represent his home area. In 2009, he was elected as the deputy leader of the Progressive Liberal Party. When his party won the 2012 election, he became the Deputy Prime Minister of The Bahamas. He also served as the Minister for Public Works and Urban Development until 2017.
After his party lost the 2017 election, Philip Davis became the Leader of the Opposition. This meant he was the main voice against the government.
Leading the Country's Infrastructure
As the Minister of Public Works and Urban Development, Philip Davis worked on many important projects. He helped make sure that about 1000 homes in The Bahamas got indoor toilets and clean water. He also oversaw the building of new roads and the repair of seawalls.
He helped bring electricity to airports on the Family Islands. His team also repaired buildings and docks that were damaged by hurricanes. He started a program called the Urban Renewal Small Homes Repairs Program. This program helped over 1000 homeowners fix their houses. It also gave jobs to thousands of contractors and skilled workers.
Becoming Prime Minister
In September 2021, the Progressive Liberal Party, led by Philip Davis, won a big election victory. They won 32 out of 39 seats in the House of Assembly. This happened as The Bahamas was working to recover from a difficult economic time.
On September 17, 2021, Philip "Brave" Davis was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the Bahamas. He took over from the previous Prime Minister, Hubert Minnis.
Family Life
Philip Davis is married to Ann Marie Davis. She is known for her work as a women's rights activist. She is also the treasurer of the Bahamas Humane Society. They have six children together. The family attends St. Christopher's Church and are Anglicans.
Philip Davis is a member of Toastmasters Club 1600. He also enjoys sports like baseball, softball, and swimming.
