History of Piedras
After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This made Puerto Rico a territory of the U.S.
A year later, in 1899, the U.S. government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, showed that Piedras and a nearby area called Matón Abajo had a total of 965 people.
