History of Pierceton
The town of Pierceton was first planned in 1853. Two men, John Butler Chapman and Lewis Keith, hired a surveyor named Otho Means to map it out. They named the town after President Franklin Pierce. The first post office in Pierceton opened in the same year, 1853.
Pierceton officially became an incorporated town in 1866. This means it was recognized as a self-governing community.
Later, in 1992, the Pierceton Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list of places in the U.S. that are important for their history or architecture.
Geography and Location
Pierceton is located in Indiana. It sits right where two important roads meet: US 30 and State Road 13.
