Pierson is a small village located in Montcalm County, which is part of the state of Michigan. In 2020, about 229 people lived there. This was more than the 172 people counted in 2010. The village is found inside Pierson Township.

History of Pierson Village

The story of Pierson began in 1856. A man named David S. Pierson bought about 40 acres of land here. He, along with Dexter Clark and John L. Shar, helped start the community. At that time, this area was still part of Mecosta County.

David S. Pierson was also important for opening the first post office. He set it up in his own home on January 29, 1857. The community was officially mapped out in 1870. A few years later, in 1873, it became an official village.

Geography and Location

Pierson is located in the far western part of Montcalm County. It sits in the southern area of Pierson Township. The U.S. 131 freeway runs just west of the village. You can get to Pierson from Exit 114, which is about 2 miles northwest.

The village is about 22 miles northwest of Greenville. It is also about 29 miles northwest of the larger city of Grand Rapids.
